2006 June 5th - "A Year Older"
Last month Reggie turned the big "3" and I turned "31."
Every year Reggie's birthday turn's into a 2 week celebration: he had cupcakes at his school, then I took him out on his actual b-day - a trip to the toy store to pick out his birthday present and dinner, then he celebrated with his dad & grandparents in Philadephia, and we concluded with a big birthday party at an indoor playspace in Santa Monica. On the drive home he proclaimed, "My birthday is over."
So by the time Reggie's birthday is over I have no desire to make a big fuss on my birthday. My usual requirement for my birthday is just a piece of cake. But now that our birthday is so close and after having cake and cupcakes over a 2 week span I am all caked out - so I need to find a new requirement for my birthday. Any suggestions?
I did get the biggest compliment from a little boy a week after my birthday. Reggie and I were having a snack by the pool and the little boy asked, "when you and your brother are done having a snack can you come play with me." That little boy made my year! We saw the little boy again this past Sunday and the little boy asked me, "Do you remember me?" How could I ever forget him. Reggie remembered him as well because he later said to me "you're not my sister."
Reggie has developed so much from 2 to 3. I remember when at 2 he just learned how to blow the birthday candle on his cake but didn't understand really the concept of birthdays and parties. Now at 3, he talks about what what age he is turning, can recite his birth date, and what he wants to have at his birthday party (cupcakes, muffins --No idea why muffins are in the mix -- and party hats). It's been fascinating this past year to watch him develop especially with his ability to express himself and his opinions (On the ? of Elmo being a boy or girl -Reggie: Elmo's not a boy! Elmo doesn't have a penis!) and to have long conversations with people- he truly is a little man!
Reggie's Professed Thoughts and Opinions:
He believes on top of all mountains (even where there is no snow) there is a polar bear
Dresses are beautiful
Mommy is a cutie pie

Ok I'll start off with an apology because I know I've been playing phone tag with some of you. My phone time is usually after 9pm here (after reggie goes to bed) or sometimes driving - but I'm keep that to a minimum since I am such a bad driver (have you heard I dinged a car aleady) - so this makes it hard for me to call folks on the east coast - so I apologize that I haven't kept in touch as well as I want to.
Things in Cali are great - I wish the weather was warmer - been around mid 60's to low 70's but I am wearing open toe shoes everday even when it rains since I go from parking garage to parking garage -and if you know me well you know I love my sandals!
I've been trying to slowly explore the area and Kathy is in town this weekend which has given me a chance to go out & see what's around in the neighborhood. We drove up to Santa Barbara this Sat and did some wine tasting - the scenery is beautiful but I didn't love the wines - too oaky for me. Yesterday we took Reggie to the Santa Monica Farmer's Market (he loves the pony rides & blueberries) and to venice beach.
Kathy will give a plug to come visit since I'm very close to the beach - and have access to pool, sauna, and gym - and I promise you will not sleep on the floor - so please come visit ---
Work is cool - Had one really rough day but since then everything has been good. My co-workers are around my age (a few younger) and definitely on the agency side there are lots of parties/dinners, etc so given that we work with alot of entertainment clients, it's been very fun to go out for work.
Reggie is doing great - he seems to like his new school and love seeing his cousins more often. He also likes to explore with me and we've been on the kiddy rides at the santa monica pier and he loves the 3rd St Promenade - he definitely likes to support and cheer on the local artists (even when they should not be singing in public).
The pix is Reggie and his cousin Warren at Sea World.
