Yesterday was the first time I walked in CA for a decent amount of time. I had entered in this Nike Remix 5K run that was to help raise $ for inner city youth athletic programs. The cool thing was that they would have various 90's hip hop acts performing along the route - Young MC, Vanilla Ice, Digital Underground, Coolio, and at the finish De La Soul.
TT - you would have been proud - I had my adidas gear ready for the race!
Well never go out till 3:30am night before the race especially if your friends want to leave at 6:30 AM to be on time for 8:30 race. I overslept and decided to meet them there - well I didn't get there till close to 9 and so I started the race very late - so late that the street sweepers were behind me and a few stragglers and waiting for us to get moving so they can clean and reopen the streets.
The run (or walk in my case) was alot of fun and I got to hear great classics like Bust A Move, Shimmy Shimmy Cocoa Pop, Ice Ice Baby --- and walk the surrounding areas of the LA Coliseum. I walked through USC frats/sorority row and had to convince people that I was not last and that there were people still behind me.
At one point - I had at least 15 people behind me and as we approached where Vanilla Ice was performing - several people must have cut the race route because I looked back and suddenly there were only 2 -3 people behind me. Determined not to be last finisher I picked up the pace. By the time I got to Digital Underground (folks stopped to watch the performance) I had at least 100 people behind me so I was in a good position.
I never caught up to my friends - they had ran the race and were on there way home at 9:30 when I had just hit the 2 mile mark.
I was awarded a medal for my efforts (as were the 5000 other runners) and I now need a pedicure badly!!!
I will try and start posting on a regular basis and next up - I will send some new Pics of Reggie - we took the kids to Picture People to take Halloween photos.
